Mulch & Beds · Orlando
Mulch & Beds, planned around the water.
A bed is only as good as what sits under the mulch. We start by pulling weeds and tired plants, cutting a clean edge and checking where the water comes from, because mulch laid over a problem only hides it.
New bed or old, the job runs the same way: cut, clear, plant, mulch. Raised planters along the house, strips beside a walk, wide beds under a live oak. Each one gets an edge that holds and mulch laid evenly.

Mulch & Beds
What a bed job includes
- 01
New beds cut and edged
Lines cut to suit the house and the lawn, with a crisp edge that keeps grass and mulch apart.
- 02
Old beds cleared
Weeds pulled, dead plants out and matted old mulch cleared, so the bed starts fresh instead of piling new on old.
- 03
Plants set
Shrubs, ti plants, liriope and color go in at the right spacing, with room to fill out.
- 04
Mulch at 2 to 3 inches
That depth holds moisture and slows weeds, and it stays pulled back from trunks and stems.
- 05
Pine bark or red mulch
Pine bark gives a natural brown, red mulch a bolder color. We talk through the choices so the bed suits the house.
- 06
Drip line under the mulch
Where plants need steady water, drip line goes down before the mulch and disappears under it.
The process
How a bed gets done
- 01
Clear and cut
Old growth and weeds come out, and edges are cut or re-cut along the line we agreed on.
- 02
Set the plants
New plants go in at the right depth and spacing, then get watered in.
- 03
Water first
Drip line or sprays are checked or added before any mulch covers them.
- 04
Mulch and tidy
Mulch goes down evenly at 2 to 3 inches, pulled back from stems, and the walks are swept clean.
Local know-how
Mulch in a Orlando summer
Fast-draining sand dries out quickly in Central Florida heat, and a mulch layer slows that. It also keeps weed seed from sprouting and softens the hit of a summer downpour on bare soil.
Mulch piled against a trunk or stem holds damp against the bark, so we keep a gap. A bed also thins out over time, which is why an older one often just needs a refresh.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Marcus twice now, and he consistently impressed me with his honesty, reliability, and solution-oriented approach. He diligently identified the problem, came with solutions, and provided insights throughout the process, ensuring that I fully understood.”

How deep should mulch be?
Usually 2 to 3 inches. Less lets weeds through and dries out fast, while much more can smother roots. We keep it pulled back from trunks and stems so the bark stays dry.
Pine bark or red mulch?
Both are common. Pine bark has a natural, brown look, and red mulch adds bold color against green leaves. We talk through what suits your plants and your house.
Do old beds need clearing before new mulch?
Usually. Weeds, dead plants and matted old mulch come out first. Piling new on top can build up too thick, so we refresh the bed rather than just covering it.
Can drip line go under the mulch?
Yes, and it is often the right place. Drip line feeds the roots directly, the mulch hides it, and the bed gets steady water with less lost to spray.
